Walking your dog is more than just a routine; it’s an adventure waiting to unfold. Whether it’s in the midnight sun of June, rainy August, or snowy December, there are countless ways to make each walk exciting and enjoyable for your furry friend. In Alaska we have to be ready to turn any weather condition into an opportunity for adventure, ensuring that your dog gets the exercise and stimulation they need no matter the time of year. Tails & Trails Pet Care is ready to make that happen.

The Benefits of Walking Your Dog in Any Weather

Physical Health

Regular walks are essential for your dog’s physical health. They help maintain a healthy weight, improve cardiovascular fitness, encourage regular digestion and elimination, and strengthen muscles. Even in less-than-ideal weather, keeping up with your dog’s walking routine can prevent health issues.

Mental Stimulation

Dogs thrive on mental stimulation. Different weather conditions can introduce new scents, sounds, and sights that keep your dog engaged. For instance, a rainy day might bring out the smell of wet earth, while a snowy day can offer a whole new world of textures and experiences.

While We Love Alaskan Adventures Outdoors, Sometimes Weather Can be Unsafe For a Walk

While we are ready to provide year-round walks and strive to be a reliable way to give your dog what it needs, there are times when it's best not to go for a walk. If conditions are hazardous due to extreme cold or heat, indoor playtime may be a safer way to exercise and entertain your dog. In these instances, we will communicate with you and come up with a safer way to play.

If your dog uses booties, paw salve, a coat, or other gear to be comfortable in the weather, please let us know so we can use their usual gear and keep them safe and comfortable. If your dog shows signs of discomfort during a walk, we will head home and notify you.

Darkness is another challenge to walking in Alaska and we will wear reflective and high visibility clothing and equipment to ensure we are noticed by drivers and others while out for a walk.
